Community Literacy Council
The Community Literacy Council strives to expand literacy awareness by promoting
and coordinating literacy programs in Bonneville County. The Council carries out
this mission through its program “Time for Literacy” which was initiated in 1992.
This program recruits volunteers who are then trained and placed in elementary schools
in Districts 91 and 93 where they work with children (usually first through third
grades) who are reading below grade level. During 2001-2005 a total of 218 volunteers were trained and a total of 17,245 hours
were volunteered. An average of 250 students per year were tutored.
